Page with Yarn Decal and Michigan Union Pins
Format
Yarn and three enamel pins on paper
Date
c. 1912
Location
500 S State St, Ann Arbor, MI 48109
Description
This page of the scrapbook is adorned with a yarn decal resembling a dandelion. The yarn decal is topped with three enamel decals, most likely all Michigan Union pins. The Michigan Union served as a social club for young men at the University of Michigan in 1904, attendance transcending the ranks of students, faculty, and athletics. These pins were given out for free to those participating in the University's sports programs, serving as a stark symbol of school spirit and community that many alumni cherished years after their school days came to a close. The quote scrawled under the decal states, "Saved from fire," which may be a reference to the Bible. The particular passage in Corinthians 3:15 states, "If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: be he himself shall be saved; yet so as through fire."
