Page Depicting Forest Fire Advertisment
Format
Canvas print on paper.
Date
c. summer of 1913
Location
Wyoming and Colorado, USA.
Description
This page displays a notice to prevent forest fires. The Big Blowup was a series of forest fires in the 1910s that inspired policies of fire suppression by the National Forest Service. This pamphlet is an example of how the initiative was promoted. The fabric banner advertisement was decorated with small pieces of bone- possibly antler- that Claude collected and took back to campus as a souvenir from his time in Wyoming and Colorado during the summer vacation of 1913.
