Date

Description
This page depicts Claude's initiation into the Club Pylon at the University of Michigan. This elite class of young men belonged to the Psi Upsilon fraternity, nicknamed Pylon, at the University of Michigan. The "Phi" chapter of the Psi Upsilon fraternity at the University of Michigan dates back to 1865 and the Chapter House, located at 1000 Hill Street, is a historic building designed by Albert Kahn, who was the architect of many of the classic buildings at the University of Michigan including the Burton Memorial Tower, Hill Auditorium, the Hatcher Graduate Library, and William L. Clements Library.
On this page, Claude describes his initiation into Club Pylon as unusual, as he was the only candidate. The photograph of the members, featuring Claude second from left in the front row, was noted to have been taken after his initiation. A paper pamphlet labeled Pylon in gold lettering is also affixed to the page.
