Page Depicting a Sailing Party on Whitmore Lake
Format
Photographic prints on cardstock
Date
c. 1912
Location
Whitmore Lake, Michigan, USA.
Description
This page of Claude's scrapbook depicts a sailing party on Whitmore Lake, a 667-acre body of water in southeastern Michigan. The leftmost photograph is of Claude and Ruth Eldora, posing as a couple on the dock leading to their sailing vessel. The photograph underneath features three young women, titled "three little maids," including Ruth Eldora in the middle. The center photograph is of Stub Bassett of Detroit, Bill Jensen of Grand Rapids, and Claude S. Buchanan caught in a moment of great humor. A more polished photograph flanks the former to the right, the three young men facing the camera and smiling mischievously. Underneath this moment is the grand finale of the day aboard the small sailing boat, barely containing each eager young student on it.
