Blueprint for the Liberty L-12 Engine
Format
Original blueprint
Date
c. 05-1917
Location
Washington, D.C., USA
Description
A blueprint for the historic Liberty 12A engine, designed by Claude S. Buchanan with U.S.A. Standardized Aircraft Engines. The Liberty 12A engine was unique in its design, made to be mass-produced by existing automotive manufacturers. First designed in May 1917, these engines were specifically designed to accommodate the use of standardized parts, a key factor in winning the war effort. The Liberty 12A was primarily used in the production of the de Havilland DH-4. Still, it was also included in aircraft such as the Curtiss H-16, the Douglas World Cruiser, the Loening Model 23, the Fokker T2, and the de Havilland DH-9.
