Postcard Written By Ruth Charlotte Buchanan

Format

Color postcard

Date

c. 1949

Location

Lake Eola, Orlando, Florida, USA.

Description

1940s postcard depicting the prominent site of Lake Eola, established in 1888. Lake Eola had humble beginnings as a natural sinkhole called Sandy Beach, later transformed into the beloved lakeside icon we know today by Robert L. Summerlin, the fifth Mayor of Orlando from 1885 to 1892. The postcard pictured was printed by Genuine Curteich-Chicago, a company renowned for advertising city features in the 20th century.

This postcard was filled out by Ruth Charlotte Buchanan. The text reads:

"Dear Elizabeth,

Dale and I are certainly enjoying the wonderful climate here.

The fishing is supposed to be very fine here."

"Dale" was Ruth Charlotte's husband, Charles Dale Emerson Miller Sr (1913-2003). The elusive figure of Elizabeth addressed is unknown.
