Date

c. 1940

Location

1300 S Denning Dr, Winter Park, FL 32789

Description

Postcard showing a bouquet of vibrant orchids. The illustration is evocative of the vibrant varieties of orchids found at Mead Botanical Garden. Situated between the Orlando and Winter Park area, the Mead Botanical Garden was dedicated in 1940, starting as about "50 acres of upland hammocks and lower wetlands, with streams, lakes, and ponds." It was named after a famed horticulturist, Theodore L. Mead, who specialized in growing orchids alongside his work developing new varieties of caladiums, rare ferns, and bromeliads.
