Description

Postcard depicting a plane flying over the Orlando Air Base during World War II. The Orlando Air Base was used to train Army and Air Force (back then known as Army Air Services) personnel and test aircraft prototypes and planes in active production. Originally opened as the Orlando Municipal Airport in 1928, the United States Army Air Base took control of the airport for use as a military training facility during World War II. This training depot would become Orlando Executive Airport in 1982, when the City of Orlando ceded control of the property to the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority.
