Side View of a DH-9 Biplane

Project type

Photographic print

Date

c. 1917

Location

McCook Field, Dayton, Ohio, USA.

Description

A photographic print of a rare DH-9 Biplane Bomber, withdrawn from service in 1920. All four DH-9 aircraft, outfitted with a Liberty 12A engine, were scrapped after the Armistice that ended the First World War was signed on November 11th, 1918. Colonel Claude S. Buchanan helped design the Liberty 12A engine that was ubiquitous in WWI biplane aircraft, as well as serving as a Liaison Engineer for the British DH-9 model, more specifically designing its unique gunsight.
